- The mission of ESCMID is to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infection-related diseases. This is achieved in part by promoting and supporting education, training, and good medical practice.
- The ESCMID Academy offers an important and highly accessible educational resource, featuring live online courses and webinars, and the addition of e-learning interactive activities and courses in the near future.
- Generally, live webinars are open access and often provide up to date/urgent information on topics related to microbiology and infectious diseases.
- ESCMID is currently developing interactive and self-paced elearning content to provide participants with the most engaging learning experience.
Online ESCMID Postgraduate Courses are hosted here and consist of two- to four-day events that focus on specific clinical or laboratory issues. Organisers can be ESCMID Study Groups, related professional societies or individual ESCMID members under the auspices and with the financial support of ESCMID.
These events are open for everyone interested in the fields of clinical microbiology or infectious diseases. If you would like to register for any of these courses, please refer to the ESCMID website.

Course Objective
Chronic HBV infection is a global public health burden estimated to impact nearly 300 million persons worldwide. Although effective vaccines are available to prevent new HBV infection, treatment of existing chronic hepatitis B (CHB) is limited, as the current standardof-care antiviral drugs can only suppress viral replication without achieving cure. This course aims to update participants concerning different therapeutic strategies and current technologies for HBV cure. The course will also cover management of hepatitis D and effect of COVID-19 on management of HBV-infection. In order to
stimulate scientific communication and collaboration between the speakers and the audience, two roundtables have also been included in the program.
